Chinese Embassy Spokesperson's Remarks on Xinjiang-related Issues
2019-12-24 15:06

Recently some false remarks on social media, such as Twitter, Facebook etc., have deliberately smeared the Chinese government's Xinjiang policy and slandered China's efforts in counter-terrorism and de-radicalization . We strongly condemn such behaviors and present our position as follows:

China implements the system of ethnic regional autonomy, upholds ethnic equality and unity, respects and protects freedom of religious belief, protects normal religious activities and safeguard religious groups, religious venues, and believers' rights in accordance with law. People of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang enjoy equal legal status and rights, including right to elect and be elected, to participate in management of state affairs, to use the spoken and written languages of their ethnic groups, to inherit their ethnic cultures, as well as freedom of religious belief and right to education, etc..

Xinjiang-related issues are not about religion, ethnicity or human rights, but about fighting violence, terrorism and separatism. Faced with severe situation under these threats, the Chinese government lawfully fought terrorist and extremist crimes in Xinjiang while addressing the root causes. Thanks to those efforts, the frequent occurrences of terrorist activities in Xinjiang have been effectively curbed and Xinjiang hasn't seen a single terrorist attack over the past three years.

The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region now enjoys social stability and unity among all ethnic groups. People there are living a happy life with a stronger sense of fulfillment and security. They endorse the government's policies and measures wholeheartedly. The remarkable progress in China's human rights cause is there for all to see and has been spoken highly of by the international community.

China and Lebanon have maintained friendly relationship. The people in our two countries are good friends. We hope the Lebanese people have discerning eyes and not be deceived by rumors.
